Sweet & Maxwell have a new publication entitled Islamic Family Law which was written by Raffia Arshad.

 

Islamic Family Law is a practical book, which assists practitioners in meeting the needs of clients who wish to follow Muslim (Shar'ia) law - how to proceed with a case, what examples to cite and the most appropriate course of action. The book deals with the issues considered by the Shar'ia council including marriage and divorce, but will also include issues such as forced marriages and adoption, which are issues currently being dealt with at local authority level. Islamic Family Law explains the overlap with English law and provides a comprehensive explanation of the remedies available to Muslim clients.

The 2010 edition of the Legal 500 has been released today and St. Marys Chambers is again recognised as a leader in its field in the East Midlands. Congratulations to Jason Reece who has been appointed a Deputy District Judge sitting on the Midland Circuit.

We are delighted to announce that Charles Geekie QC has accepted an invitation to join St. Mary's Chambers as a door tenant.

 

Mr Geekie will continue to practice primarily form his London Chambers at 1 Garden Court Family Law Chambers, Temple.

Congratulations to Christopher Butler on his appointment to the bench of the Supreme Court of Gibraltar.
